Weekly Thursdays from 8-9am OR 5-6pm (one or both groups may run - depending on attendance)

Being in a time of “Social Distancing” adds a barrier to connection that all of us need.

This virtual 6-week group is designed for men seeking a group process to explore vulnerability regarding what it means to be a man and how to break down toxic masculinity.  This process opens conversations for members to explore both individually and in virtual connection the “male code” of pressures and how it impacts them.

This group is designed for men in the GBTQ community with anxiety, depression, anger or other emotional issues that will allow group practice to identify, express and communicate emotions with others.

This group is based off the work of Dr. Rob Garfield M.D., a psychotherapist and clinical faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania and his book “Breaking the Male Code: Unlocking the Power of Friendship.”

WHO

  • Men (in the GBTQ community) looking for a group process to explore emotions in a group setting

  • Group members must have prior experience with outpatient individual counseling, and be in a stable mental health condition (or actively engaged in individual therapy if suicidal ideation is present).

WHEN

  • Weekly on Thursdays from 8-9am or 5-6pm between Thursday, April 16-Thurs. May 21 (This group will begin virtually and may shift to in person based on the CDC’s social distancing guidelines)

COST

  • This group is $10/session ($60 total) but session fee is waived (pro bono) for those with incomes <$60k (or those with financial hardships).

WHY

  • Process groups are clinical spaces for participating members to learn and gain feedback from one another under the direction of a group facilitator. This group will allow men to connect in places of vulnerability, thereby hoping to break down toxic masculinity and in place learn emotional intimacy skills.

  • Group members are encouraged to read Breaking the Male Code by Dr. Garfield as this group is designed from it’s framework (but this is not a requirement).

QUESTIONS?

  • Please reach out to Laura Morse, Laura@sunpointwellness.com to reserve your space.  Attendance at all groups is strongly encouraged. This group will need a minimum of four members to run. Please feel free to share this group with your networks.
